Day 59 - It's Not A Personality Contest - On The Road To Mayor

August 6, 2015

Brunette business lady is drawing a sketch of Moscow International Business Centre, Moscow-city on the black chalkboard.

I saw someone on Facebook say they were going to decide who to vote for Akron mayor by looking at things like:

  • Who he is married to.
  • How his kids behave and do in school.
  • Where he grew up.
  • Where he went to school.
  • Where he goes to church.

I get it.

These things can be an indicator of character.

But they have nothing to do with being a good or bad mayor.

Here's a list of 7 presidents that almost positively cheated on their wives at some time in their marriages: Is there a definitive list of presidents who have... | Dead Presidents

It certainly doesn't help their public persona. People love to hate adulterers. But it doesn't have an effect on the way they performed as president.

I will tell you right now, and you are welcome to dig as deep and hard as you want, I have never, ever cheated on my wife.

I haven't smoked a cigarette or had a sip of alcohol since 2003.

I don't drink coffee.

I've run 3 marathons.

I am starting a meditation practice.

I love camping with my wife and son.

I try to be in bed by 9:00 every night, 7 days a week.

I like getting up early - 6:30 at the latest, 7 days a week.

I would be a tough match to beat in a clean living contest.

But none of that matters for being mayor.

There is one main trait I'd look at if I were you: What vision does the person have to be mayor?

Where do they want to take the city? What do they want to accomplish?

You need to figure out who is going to be a great leader.

Great leaders inspire greatness in those they lead.

Great leaders have bold ideas on how to make their city (Akron) great.

Great leaders see the possibilities of the future. They don't stare at all the road blocks that are holding them back.

Look for an optimistic, hopeful visionary as your next mayor of Akron.
