Day 15 - You Can't Do That - The Road To Mayor

June 23, 2015

The path I'm on for mayor is unlikely, filled with unforeseable risks and unadvised by pretty much everyone in power and authority.

The last one is why I'm pushing forward with everything I've got.

I've always had a problem with just blindly accepting what authority tells me to do.

But more importantly: I'm doing it because it's the right thing to do.

In America, a person should be able to run for a position like mayor and the people should be able to vote for that person. I'm telling you right now that's  not the system we live in.

As it stands, an appointed board of elections can arbitrarily decide what random technicality they can use to allow someone to make their way onto a ballot.

  • Whiteout
  • Wrong date anywhere
  • A page not signed
  • The wrong person got the signatures

It goes on and on and on.

Sometimes they accept those things and sometimes they don't. Oh. And more than likely your state Supreme Court will side with them. So don't go to court thinking you'll win.

This is a little known fact because so few people run for elected office. That's how they like it. Be too timid to run and then be tricked out of the race when you do run.

All 4 Democratic insiders got on the ballot. The 2 outsiders did not. Do you really think that's a coincidence?

I've gotten myself in a bit of a sticky position. I know there are some people reading this story waiting to see what I'll do next.

There are so few decent role models outside of the comic book movies we all flock to see. If I could be some small  inspiration for you that would make it all worth it.

If one person reads this and decides to run for any elected office that would be worth it.

If one person decides the system needs adjusted that would be worth it.

If one person decides they've had enough with the Republican / Democratic dynasties that would be worth it.

(I mean, vote for Bernie Sanders or a Paul this election. That would make it worth it.)

I would like you to know 3 things:

  1. America was not meant to be run by dynasties and monarchs. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison took the bold, optimistic stance that the people can rule themselves. Europe thought that was absurd.
  2. After over 200 years the Democrats and Republicans are doing everything they can to take power away from the people. Tell me the Bush / Clinton families don't look just like royalty. Those 2 front runners already have over $100 million each.
  3. But the fundamental laws are still in place. You don't have to let them control you. In fact, you have the power to get rid of them. It's been done before and it will be done again.

So I'm going forth on a very unlikely journey. But like most things in life the journey becomes the destination.

I'm looking forward to meeting you along the way. And I'm looking forward to seeing all the other really interesting things I'm sure I'll learn as I go.

I'm not naive in underestimating the massive armies in front of me. I'm just not going to lay down because they are massive and make all the rules.  That's not what America is.
